A New
Constellation in the North!
| In
2008, Brevard Public Schools
purchased Discovery Education
Streaming for every school and
teacher in the District. This
resource enabled teachers to search
a library of over 9000 full length
videos and over 70,000 content
specific video clips to download and
use in their classrooms. In
addition, the Discovery Education
Network (DEN) provides Brevard's
teachers with the opportunity to
collaborate and network with a
nationwide community of
technology-savvy teachers.
Teachers who are committed to
"raising the bar" in classroom
technology can become Discovery STAR
Educators. STAR Educators are
committed to sharing lesson plans
and collaborating on ideas for using
technology resources in the
classroom. In Brevard County, the
Technology Integrators have made a
major commitment to helping the
District's teachers attain STAR
Educator status. As of May 2009,
Brevard leads the nation in
Discovery STAR Educators.
An additional distinction for
schools who have 25 or more STAR
Educators is the designation as a
Constellation School.
South Lake became a new
constellation in May, 2009!

At South Lake the staff is committed to
increasing student achievement.
To ensure
academic success for all students, a highly
structured academic learning schedule is in
place increasing time for instruction and
learning. Targeting the Sunshine State
Standards provides direction for all
instruction. Title I funding furnishes
additional materials and extra personnel to
assist students, Above grade level
students are offered accelerated reading
instruction through cross grade level grouping.
Shared high expectations between students,
parents, and teachers assure maximum learning
takes place. After school activity clubs
are also available for students to enhance their
educational experience.
